Installation Guide
Important information about installing your new lighting
Important Safety Information
All fixed electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified electrician. This is a legal requirement in the UK for safety reasons.
Incorrect installation can be dangerous and may void the warranty. We do not provide installation services. If you're unsure about any aspect of installation, please consult a qualified professional.
Before Installation
Check Your Order
- Unpack carefully and check all components against the packing list
- Inspect for any damage - report any issues immediately before installation
- Read all instructions provided with your light fitting
- Check you have the correct bulbs (if not included)
Assess the Location
- Ensure the ceiling or wall can support the weight of the fitting
- Check existing wiring is suitable - if unsure, have an electrician check
- Consider height clearance, especially for pendant lights and chandeliers
- For ceiling fixtures, identify the type of ceiling (plasterboard, concrete, etc.)
Hiring an Electrician
When hiring an electrician, look for someone who is:
- Registered with a competent person scheme (e.g., NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA)
- Able to provide certificates for their work
- Insured and able to provide references
What to Provide
When your electrician arrives, provide them with:
- The light fitting and all components
- The installation instructions (included with the fitting)
- Any technical specifications from the product page
Tip: Many electricians can advise on optimal positioning and may suggest improvements to existing wiring. It's worth getting their professional opinion during the installation.
About Bulbs
Each product page specifies whether bulbs are included and, if not, the recommended bulb type, wattage, and fitting.
Bulb Recommendations
- Never exceed the maximum wattage stated for your fitting
- LED bulbs are recommended for energy efficiency and longer life
- Consider colour temperature: warm white (2700-3000K) for living spaces, cool white (4000K+) for task lighting
- Dimmable fittings require dimmable-compatible bulbs
Common Bulb Fittings
- E27: Large Edison screw (most common)
- E14: Small Edison screw (candle bulbs)
- B22: Bayonet cap
- GU10: Twist and lock spotlight
- G9: Loop pin (often used in chandeliers)
Dimmer Switches
Many of our light fittings are compatible with dimmer switches, allowing you to adjust the ambience to suit different occasions.
Dimmer Compatibility
- Check the product page for dimmer compatibility
- LED bulbs require LED-compatible dimmer switches
- Not all dimmers work with all LEDs - check compatibility
- Your electrician can advise on suitable dimmer switches
After Installation
- Keep all paperwork, including warranty information and installation instructions
- Request a certificate from your electrician for the work completed
- Test all functions (switching, dimming) to ensure correct operation
- Clean any fingerprints from glass or metal surfaces with a soft cloth
